These days there’s not much word that comes from the Sakuye. It’s not that they’ve been reached and we’ve kept silent—it’s really just the opposite.
Little is going on with the Sakuye, although there is a Kenya based group called Sheepfold that has people there on the ground in one town trying to reach them for Jesus Christ. Even the missionaries that are there are facing struggles and they may also have to leave.
While I was traveling in Kenya in October I met a woman that has come to know the Lord who’s originally from Ethiopia. She has a deep burden for the people that had migrated from her people group in Ethiopia and settled in Kenya generations ago. The Sakuye are a small group and usually they are considered as being a sub-group of the Boran. They live on the border between Marsabit District and Wajir District (between the Boran and the Somali). They are similar to the Boran but maintain a separate identity. Like the Boran they are herders of camels and cattle and are nomadic due to the fact that they need to find water and grazing for their animals, since they live in an area which has little rainfall or good vegetation.
There is no church among the Sakuye and no active Gospel witness to this Muslim people.
