23JulRangi Update 2, 2010 - “God’s Word is being put into the heart language of the Rangi”

The Rangi church continues to need a full time pastor to oversee the various  ministries happening in Pahi and the surrounding area.

Cloudi Roman, an evangelist, has agreed to help Dr. Chanji with the church work for the time being. Cloudi has completed four years at Bible college and he is being assigned to work in another area of Tanzania to complete his training in cross cultural ministry before he will be allowed to return to work among his own people.

The Girls’ High School continues to thrive but one hurdle that needs to be crossed is the accreditation needed from the government. Even so, the school has 360 young women who are learning and growing at the boarding school. About 30 girls were baptized over Easter; praise God!

Dr Chanji is being pulled by both his  medical practice and the church leadership responsibilities he has. Add that to the pressure of the news that his 13-month old son has been diagnosed with sickle cell anemia and you can begin to get an idea of the things that weigh on him as he works among the Rangi. Dr. Chanji, however, has been able to get some help from the doctors in the larger cities.

The outreach to the Rangi continues in other venues as well. The preschool has been teaching the children Biblical truth at an early age and workers continue to reach out to the families and try to visit them several times a year. This is a great avenue to share the Gospel by showing compassion to their children and aids in building relationships that might bear fruit.

Peter has one more year of Theological school left in Kenya and Ruthie, his wife, has finished her Bible training and anticipates joining him for his last year of studies while their three children remain in Tanzania in boarding school. After Peter’s graduation he has been approved to lead a TIMO (Training in Ministry Outreach) team to a new village among the Rangi. This team will live among the Rangi for two to three years, learning the language, culture and building relationships in their first months there as well as learning practical missiology while there on the ground. Over that period of time they will present the Gospel in a way that would be culturally relevant to the Rangi without diminishing the message.

The book of Mark in Kilangi has recently been completed and dedicated. It’s exciting to see that God’s word is being put into the heart language of the Rangi so they can hear it themselves in their mother tongue.

Many thanks for your prayers.
