Chad has passed through 6 months of great insecurity and trials following the rebel attack on the 1st and 2nd Feb on the capital, N’djamena. Many lives have been lost, families traumatised and property destroyed. In addition there has been a sharp rise in prices especially of staple foods. In the context, it is very difficult to give specific praise and pray information for the Mbororo people that we have adopted. Nevertheless, we are convinced that prayer is needed more than ever to demolish the strongholds in this land. Using some ideas gleaned from Beth Moore’s book, “Praying God’s Word”, I would like you to claim the power of God in prayer by applying the word to these strongholds….. Pastor Shilikale related a story that happened this past August about a Datooga man named Gengaru.

“God answers prayer. Some of you have been praying for the Datooga for couple of years ago. Five weeks (that is August) ago a Datooga man who always drunker, he is called Gengaru, came to the Olpiro pastor saying that; he had a vision which told him to go to the pastor, that is where he will get his help. He did not obey that. He had the second time, and then went to the pastor. He said “pray for me I want to believe in Jesus, because God told me that”. The pastor prayed for him. The pastor and a church elder went to visit him and he turned his life to Jesus. Last two Sundays (the 14th and 21st Sep) he has been coming to church…. Continue reading ‘“The door is open.”’

These days there’s not much word that comes from the Sakuye. It’s not that they’ve been reached and we’ve kept silent—it’s really just the opposite.
Little is going on with the Sakuye, although there is a Kenya based group called Sheepfold that has people there on the ground in one town trying to reach them for Jesus Christ. The place is hard and there is a strong spiritual presence there that has caused a lot of problems with past missionaries. Even the missionaries that are there are facing struggles and they may also have to leave.
While I was traveling in Kenya in October I met a woman that has come to know the Lord who’s originally from Ethiopia. She has a deep burden for the people that had migrated from her people group in Ethiopia and settled in Kenya generations ago. I met her while I was traveling around visiting some of the groups that we’re praying for and had the opportunity to sit and talk with her….. Here is a story from people in Birise, a village we do a monthly air clinic in: today at our health center/clinic base in Magambua we had a 50 year old man come by bike from Birise. We are talking an eight hour plus trip for this man being pushed on a bike by his brothers.
He was very ill with a bleeding stomach ulcer. He had severe anemia, very dehydrated, and was vomiting blood. He was admitted to our clinic and we stabilized with IV fluids and medicine to control the bleeding ulcer. The next day he was sent to the hospital for a needed blood transfusion.
They were from the Sandawe tribe so I was able to play bible tapes that our Wycliffe Bible Translators have put into the Sandawe tongue. This family was so thrilled to hear God’s word in their own language. I asked if they understood the reply I received was “Oh, yes I do!! I hear right down here (and he pointed to his heart) and it is true!” When will you have a church for us in Birise so we can learn more about God?” He told me he had no where to worship in Birise so he has to worship God however he can….. Hello Again to Everyone Praying for the Sakalava People.
At this time of year, there are many things to pray about for the Sakalava people. These months before Christmas are often filled with “traditional” rituals in the Sakalava villages. Although it varies on different parts of the Island, from our personal experience, we have seen that this is a very dark time. There are lots of gatherings in “sacred” houses to call upon dead “ancestors” to possess someone and then use that person to pass along information to the others. During this time there is lots of drinking which also leads to disagreements and unrest among others in the village.
Kids’ Club

As we mentioned in the last update, we have started a kids’ club in the village and it is going great! We have been doing singing, a Bible story and then a game and it has been well received by both the kids and the adults in the village, which is a huge answer to prayer. So thank you for your prayers for our kids’ club! The singing is a big hit and we often hear kids singing songs about Jesus when they are playing….. It is now a couple of weeks since we were in Pahi for the celebration for the dedication of the new Clinic ward, and yet the memories of that weekend were like it was yesterday. We were joined by representatives from Calvary Bible Fellowship Church in PA for this weekend of rejoicing in what has transpired over the past few years with regards to the Rangi outreach in the Pahi area.
We were able to witness the opening of the new ward for the Clinic. With this completed and now with 5 full time staff, the government has upgraded the status of this medical facility from Clinic to Health Centre. This means that it is now on the government rota for free medicines and vaccinations. It also means that we will be able to tap into the resources available for HIV and AIDS testing. What a blessing to see so much of what God is doing in that community. It is a huge testimony to God’s goodness in that 10 years ago this ministry had not even started. God is great and does awesome things….. Continue reading ‘“The new high school project desperately needs your prayers”’
Of the 100,000 Mwani people, a third of the tribe lives in the city of Mocimbao da Praia. A walk through town reveals remnants of Portuguese glory. Wide, paved avenues intersect rutted, muddy roads. A sprawling city garden going back to wild engulfs a cage that once housed a leopard—now just a rusted reminder of the ill-conceived and ultimately unsuccessful attempts of colonial powers to subjugate the beauty and strength of this African nation. But to truly glimpse the heart of Mwani life, one must walk farther down the road, through the neighborhoods and markets, down to the shore…. Continue reading ‘Little by Little, the Basket Fills Up’
